Mojo of the Week

I don't know if it's the recent cold and wet weather, or perhaps a reflection of my perceived usual business, but it has been SUPER quiet in the workshop of late. If you need any work done at all, please don't hesitate to get in touch - I'll fit you in tout suite. Also winter is a great time to come and see me to get a bike-fit done if you are feeling not quite right. Get in touch for an appointment during the week by emailing me or flicking me a text. Details to the right...

While it has been very cruisy, I still have the odd job to be getting on with - here is a beautiful Ibis Mojo that Rob got through Bicycle in Lower Hutt. He built the bulk of it himself, then brought it to me for a final fettle. I built the wheels in January, so it's great to see them rolling on such a stunning steed.

It has the rubberised finish over nude carbon. The wheels are Chris King hubs built into Stan's 355 rims using DT Swiss Competition spokes. It has a Thomson stem and seatpost for now, along with Juicy Carbon brakes, although Rob is going to swap those out for Juicy Ultimates and Easton carbon seatpost - the stem is still to be decided on, although I think it's difficult to improve upon the Thomson stem. The shifting duties are undertaken by Sram XO, with an X9 front derailleur shifting the chain up and down an XTR chainset. It is also equipped with Pace forks, and Rob is using magnesium flat pedals for now, but I'm sure he'll be clipping in again before very long...As it is now it weighs only 11kg (24lb)!

I got an email last week that made me very happy - it was from James Huang, the esteemed Technical Editor of cyclingnews.com. He was asking my permission to use the shots of the new Dura-Ace kit that I posted on May the 12th. While I was stoked to be asked, I had to let James know that they in fact came from my friend Benny Devcich (alias Wrenchman), who is a highly-regarded mechanic for Team High Road. Benny took the pics while working at the Giro d'Italia and sent them to me, and it turns out that I posted them before most of the cycling media had even seen the stuff. Very cool to have what amounts to a world exclusive. Thanks Benny!

The new DA lever again...

Edit - Monday 2nd June Here is the article that combines Benny's photos with the official product release from Shimano.

Lastly, here's a shot of Ruth Corset from my beloved Jazz Apples Cycling Team on the top step of the podium at the Mt Hamilton Road Race, as written about in my last blog entry.

Thanks for reading, Oli
